We’re especially glad to have OXO’s apple corer on hand when we make whole baked apples or Tarte Tatin, which calls for cored apple halves. The tool removes the core and ends in one swift motion. Serrations at the end make iteasy to plunge the tool into the apple, and the soft rubber grip prevents slippage when your hands are slick with apple juice. The drawback, common to all apple corers of this design, is that you need to be good at guessing exactly where the core lies. But if your aim is a little off, you’ll just need to do a little core clean-up once you cut the apple in half (a melon baller works well for this).
