Welcome to Homegrown, Homemade. I’m a cook who needs some help in the garden and Fine Gardening‘s Danielle Sherry is a gardener who needs some help in the kitchen. We’ve teamed up to show gardeners and cooks of all skill levels how get the most out of their crops from seed to plate. In these episodes, we’re growing and cooking with eggplant.

Episode Three: How to Harvest Eggplant
Danielle teaches me the “shininess test” (“it’s a real thing!”) to determine whether or not my eggplant is ready to pick and explains why I need gloves and shears to protect my skin during the harvest.
