Delicious Shots is a great food blog that was actually brought to our attention by a loyal reader named Margaret. It’s a beautiful site written and photographed by Najwa, a graduate of the French Culinary Institute and lover of simple, seasonal food.
Yesterday Najwa posted about her favorite kind of breakfast, a colorful Middle Eastern spread that includes hummus, labneh cheese, a fresh salad and sunny eggs. With breakfasts like this that remind her of old family meals and flavors, Najwa loves to serve homemade naan bread alongside.
One of my favorite aspects of this meal is the labneh, a homemade fresh cheese made from yogurt. You drain plain yogurt in cheesecloth for about 12 hours until it has reached a consistency similar to that of soft cream cheese. That’s all there is to it. To serve, drizzle the labneh with good olive oil and salt, then season with sumac or za’atar.
See? Breakfast doesn’t just have to consist of toast and coffee. Enjoy the foods and flavors you love most, no matter what time of day. Visit Delicious Shots for more wonderful ideas and inspiration in the kitchen.
