When we asked barbecue expert Elizabeth Karmel to name her favorite store-bought barbecue sauces, we were a little surprised that one of her picks was a mass-market brand. But it made sense when we learned that it was one from the new pitmaster series of barbecue sauces from Heinz, which were created in partnership with some of America’s top pitmasters and, more important, made from 100% natural ingredients. Elizabeth’s favorite is the one from Dan Brown Leonard’s PIT Barbecue in Memphis (pictured above). With sweet brown sugar (in place of the high-fructose corn syrup more commonly used in mass-market brands) and the flavors of the region’s traditional dry rubs, it’s both sweet and spicy and would taste great on Elizabeth’s Barbecued Buttermilk-Marinated Chicken Breasts on. The new sauces are available¬†at supermarkets.¬†
