Today’s drink comes from the new book Destination: Cocktails: The Traveler’s Guide to Superior Libations by James Teitelbaum. It’s not a cocktail book, though there are about a dozen recipes in it invented by the author, including the Katy’s Kiss below.
The book is a listing of the best craft cocktail bars around the world with in-depth write-ups on each, often including the bar’s atmosphere, house style, and a few cocktail recommendations. About half the reviews in the book are of cocktail bars in America, with the remaining half for the rest of the world. Somehow the author made it to over 350 bars in 40 cities globally to put together this book.
Even more impressive is how accurate and up-to-date the book is- there are even a few bars mentioned that weren’t open yet when the book went to print yet the author knew they’d be on the radar when they did. Furthermore, the author’s website lists a few updates – bars that have opened or closed since publication (already!).
The book would certainly be of interest to any cocktail fan planning to do a bit of traveling (unlike bar reviews on the internet, the book sticks to just the best places) in the US or abroad, or to read as an intellectual exercise, learning about the current global state of the cocktail bar.
But anyway, here’s that drink. As the author writes in the introduction below, this cocktail really does taste like cherry Chapstick, or more accurately, like drinking a Bourbon and Soda while wearing the flavored lip protection.

This one was inspired by someone mentioning that Pimm’s tastes like Chapstick. Why not go for cherry Chapstick?
1.5 fl. oz. Bourbon
.5 fl. oz. Pimm’s
.5 fl. oz. Cherry Heering Cherry Liqueur
1 tablespoon Fresh-Squeezed Lime Juice
2 dashes Angostura Bitters
Build all ingredients over ice cubes in a Collins glass. Stir and top with seltzer water. Add a cherry garnish.
