Update: Congrats to SarahJB. Her comment was picked at random, and she’s our wine tools winner. Thank you all for participating in the giveaway. Don’t miss the next Behind the Kitchen Door feature in Fine Cooking #119. Award-winning retaurateur Tom Douglas shares his built-for-entertaining kitchen and his favorite gadgets and serveware will be up for grabs. Coming soon!

Calling all wine lovers. Get ready to drool, or spit, as you’re apt to do at serious wine tastings. We were lucky enough to spend the day in the kitchen of Fine Cooking contributor Maria Helm Sinskey, a chef, cookbook author, and co-owner and culinary director of picturesque Robert Sinskey Vineyards in Napa, California. Yes, many a bottle of wine was open, and, as the conversation flowed, Maria shared with us-and now you-the wine tools she reaches for most, from caddy to corkscrew.

To win Maria’s must-haves, simply leave a comment below. On Monday, August 6, 2012, I’ll pick a comment at random and the winner can start planning his or her next kitchen counter wine tasting. The prize pack is worth more than $585. (Now closed).

Behind the Kitchen Door: Go on a guided tour of Maria’s kitchen.

Maria Helm Sinskey’s Must-Have Wine Tools
wine caddy corkscrew

Maria uses an antique wine caddy to store ready-to-drink reds. You could win a sleek modern version of Maria’s antique caddy made by Blomus.

Maria compares using her Château Laguiole corkscrew to putting on a pair of party shoes and insists it’s worth the price tag.
wine decanter stemware
“Wine needs to breathe to fully develop its complex flavors,” Maria says. She uses a one-of-a-kind handblown water pitcher as a decanter to help it along. The artists at Esque Studio in Portland made Maria’s decanter and one especially for our winner.   Have your own wine tasting party with Maria’s three favorite glasses: Riedel’s Ouverture red wine glasses (center), Vinum Bordeaux glasses (left), and Vinum Burgundy glasses (right). We’ll send you a pair of each.
olive oil soap placeholder
“Rather than blow through liquid soap, I run my sponge over this solid block of Savon de Marseille olive oil soap,” Maria says. “It even prevents red wine stains from setting if you act quickly and use a cloth dampened with cool water to rub it onto the stain.”

What a beautifully designed functional kitchen! I particularly like the baking table island with the slots for baking sheets. And...the pantry is to die for!
