What is it?

Ice cream is a frozen dessert made from dairy products, usually cream and milk. It also contains a sweetening agent like sugar, honey, or corn syrup, and sometimes solid ingredients like fruit, candy, nuts and other mix-ins. Some ice creams have an egg custard as part of their base.

When the ice cream base is frozen, it’s stirred slowly and constantly as it cools to prevent the formation of large ice crystals, this ensures an ice cream with smooth, creamy texture. Most commercial ice creams contain artificial ingredients and stabilizers to improve the texture and body of the product and to keep it from melting during transport.

Ice cream is a treat on its own, but it’s also a component in other desserts like ice cream sandwiches, bars, and sundaes, milkshakes, baked alaska, and many more.

How to store:

During storage, ice cream has a tendency to absorb other food odors and to form ice crystals. For that reason, it’s best not to freeze it for long periods of time. Sealing the carton in a plastic bag will extend its storage life.
