Create Your Own Ice Cream and Win!

By Fine Cooking Editors, editor

May 9th, 2009

This summer, we've gone a little ice cream-crazy at Fine Cooking. In our June-July issue, author David Lebovitz shares his simple method for homemade ice cream, from which you can create hundreds of different flavors.

We want to see what you make with David's formula. First, go to our interactive version of his article: Create Your Own Ice Cream, to build your custom flavor in three easy steps. (The recipe builder is free, but you'll need to create an account and log in to save the recipes you create). Then, enter the contest by uploading photos and descriptions of what you make.

On July 14, we will choose ten finalists, chosen for their creativity and deliciousness. Between July 15 and July 29, The community will vote on these finalists to choose one winner. The Grand Prize: a Cuisnart Flavor Duo two-bowl ice cream maker.

Let the ice cream making begin!

Desserts are a crowning glory to a creative menu and I try to have a common denominator throughout a menu even a summer BBQ.
Turkey Burgers with Cranberry sauce, Vidalia Onions and White Cheddar just balance a meal with
Cranberry Vanilla Ganache Ice Cream.
To a recipe of Rich Vanilla Ice Cream,
I add 1 cup of basic Cranberry Sauce(made right from the recipe on the package (use Lemon Juice instead of any water) and cooked just until the berries POP)..cooled so as NOT to melt the ice cream.
Return to the freezer to firm up and later stir 1 cup of *Ganache in a ribbon....do not over mix.
Room temperature *Dark Chocolate Ganache..(50%Chocolate+50%Whipping cream)
Warm the cream, do NOT boil, remove from heat and add the finely chopped chunks of 80% cocoa rich dark chocolate into the cream stirring until all the pieces are melted.
The constrasting flavours just keep yout mouth jumping for joy.
