Announcing Our Create Your Own Grilled Pizza Contest Finalists

By Fine Cooking Editors, editor

September 22nd, 2009

Thanks to everyone who used our recipe builder to Create Your Own Grilled Pizza. Your creative grilled pizzas were the perfect antidote for anyone stuck in a plain-cheese rut. You showed us that with a little imagination (who says figs are just for tarts?) the grilled pizza possibilities are endless.

Here are our top 10 stand-out, gotta-make-this-ourselves grilled pizzas. Please vote for your favorite using the poll below.

huevos rancheros pizza   garlic tomatoes and duck prosuitto pizza
Rivi's Huevos Rancheros is our kind of breakfast pizza: eggs, bacon, sauce, cheddar, avocado, and sour cream.
This Duck Proscuitto & Leerdammer Cheese Pizza by Jaclyne, won major points for its creativity and delicious-looking photography.

meaty mushroom pizza   sallys spanish pizza
Featuring Canadian bacon; Capicola ham; pancetta; and of course, mushrooms, Schu1266’s The Meaty Mushroom is more than your average meat-lovers' pie.
Peskyone's Sally's Spanish Pizza, with its free-form, whole wheat and cornmeal crust got the attention of our editors.

proscuito grilled pizza   mushroom grilled pizza
Not only was SarahJB’s recipe for Proscuitto, Goat Cheese & Caramelized Fennel Jam Pizza creative, the finished pizza was also gorgeous and the photos showed us how it all came together.
Arogers229’s Grilled Mushroom Pizza Recipe features field mushrooms, Cipolline onions, rosemary, bacon, and parmigiano.

grilled chicken white pizza   German pizza
Ackernackt’s Grilled Chicken White Sauce Grilled Pizza included artichoke hearts, green and black olives, peppercinis, and a three-cheese mix of mozzarella, provolone, and feta.
Jhalsall1's Has's German Pizza Pie is the perfect pizza for your Octoberfest celebration.

figs with prosciutto grilled pizza   simple mushroom pizza
Npetruz calls his Pizza with Caramelized Figs, Prosciutto, and Heirloom Tomatoes, "Heaven on a plate." We agree.
A classic pie, like Kristia’s Simply Delicious is the perfect way to showcase a flavorful homemade sauce.

We’re going to tally the poll results on Friday, October 2, 2009 and award the lucky winner a KitchenAid stand mixer and a collection of Taunton Press cookbooks, including Pizza on the Grill by Elizabeth Karmel and Bob Blumer, Grillin’ with Gas by Fred Thompson, Absolutely Chocolate by the Editors of Fine Cooking, and Beef by John Torode.

Honorable Mentions
As usual, we were impressed by entries from Denise Jones (Grilled Antipasto Pizza) and NJacobsons (FC-Inspired House Special), but since both have won previous gallery contests, neither was selected in our top 10. Ladies, please continue to inspire us with your work. We really appreciate it!

jhalsall1 writes: SBreckendge--just a suggestion for next contest... I noticed that we have 34 "likes it" on our specific pizza (on our recipe page). To which I am wondering if some of our voters and friends were confused where the actual voting took place? Not that the additional 34 would have helped us win, but it may be easier to put the voting sheet at the top before the voters scroll down to view the Pizza's. I think that some people saw the Pizza's, clicked on the link then saw the "Likes it" button and thought that was the voting. Just a random thought. Good job to everyone who competed. can't wait to try the other Pizza's! Posted: 11:52 am on October 1st

ackernackt writes: When does the voting actually close? Thursday night or Friday night? Posted: 5:57 pm on September 30th

We did detect some fraudulent votes but we've removed them from the tally; we've also upped the security to prevent more fraudulent votes. Posted: 4:51 pm on September 30th

QueenCooker_lovah writes: Papainhell you should try that fig pizza, i just tried 3 out of the ten pizzas and all were delicious including the fig pizza (very original by the way). I also enjoyed sally's spanish pizza and the meaty mushroom Posted: 2:02 pm on September 30th

papainhell writes: Wow, so I guess its OK to just keep clicking because that fig pizza had 200 votes 25Sep and today 28Sep it has over a 1000.

Surely this is not a contest about taste it has become a button pressing exercise with food not even being the issue; it is absolutely ridiculous. Posted: 12:43 pm on September 28th

papainhell writes: After contacting the maker of the grilled chicken with white sauce and getting his recipe I have since stooped looking for a white sauce pizza recipe; this pizza is phenomenal, all should try. Posted: 5:00 pm on September 24th

goretti writes: The duck proscuitto & leerdammer pizza looks amazingly delicious, yummy, yummy! Posted: 4:39 pm on September 23rd
