I was browsing the pie recipes in the FC archives and stumbled across this unusual pie-- unusual to me at least. It was touted by the other reviewers as a great summer pie, but really was perfect for this cold, snowy Chicago day. First, it bakes for an hour-- buttery warm aromatherapy for the winter blahs. Second, I have a ton of buttermilk to use up-- score! One advantage for summer is that this rich filling really benefits from a garnish of fruit-- luckily I had some blueberries in the freezer for a quick sauce. My husband and I agreed that this will be a great breakfast pie, but my 5-year-old just wanted to stick her fingers in the blueberry sauce. I definitely won't wait until summer to make this one again-- a pie for all seasons.
