Cook the Issue 2010: Spicy Pickled Onions

I put these together yesterday for a cocktail party I am hosting next weekend, so I haven't actually tasted them yet.  I had everyone in the house coughing while the vinegar weas simmering!  It certainly smelled spicy, so I am looking forwarrd to trying these.
