5-Ingredient Soup (and More Recipes with a Handful of Ingredients)

By Robyn Doyon-Aitken, Web producer

October 17th, 2011

The minute I visited the Stonesoup blog and read Jules Clancy’s mission “committed to only cooking recipes with no more than 5 ingredients” I thought, This is a woman I could eat with. But for a different reason than she might think. Yes, as she says, sticking to five ingredients translates into a lot less: less time, less shopping, less stress. Sounds good to me. And, if your meals are focused around only a handful of ingredients, you’re more likely to seek out the highest quality ingredients available. Might as well, right?

If you’re a mom, you know these five ingredients pretty darn well: macaroni, cheese, ketchup, chicken, and ketchup. I know I said ketchup twice.

Jules makes five ingredients look amazing and Stonesoup is filled with simple, delicious-looking recipes I want to make (like today, in fact) starting with her Baby Carrot Soup. It doesn’t include one of the five ingredients my kids prefer, but Jules calls it “a steaming bowl of sunshine.” Even a seven year old won’t say no to that.
