Summer is here, and it’s time to break out the s’mores around a campfire.  Only problem is, the weather doesn’t always want to cooperate.  My friends recently wanted to build a campfire and make s’mores, but the weather ruined our plans, so we ended up eating “raw s’mores”: meaning, we just ate the ingredients on their own.  Don’t get me wrong, chocolate, marshmallows, and graham crackers are great even without being toasted, but there is something so satisfying about freshly toasted, gooey marshmallows in the middle of that delicious snack.

So now that I’ve found Eva’s recipe for Dulce de Leche S’mores on Adventures in Cooking, I’m excited to buy s’mores ingredients for my friends, no matter what the weather is.  Not only can we make these s’mores inside, but Eva’s recipe also gives a new flavor to the classic bonfire treat.  Making the dulce de leche is a three-hour process, but taking the time to prepare it makes this decadent treat feel decidedly more grown-up.  S'mores may take just a couple of minutes to make if you have a bonfire going, but if you're stuck inside, make this rainy-day version of this classic kid treat with a grown-up filling.  It's worth the wait.
