Taste What You See at the NYC Food Film Festival

Dinner for Two from John Craig Ross on Vimeo.

Produced by: John Craig Ross, http://www.vimeo.com/johncraigross

Pairing food and film is hardly a new concept, but the NYC Food Film Festival goes way beyond popcorn and Milk Duds. Through documentaries, features, and short films, the festival showcases the best and most memorable of the world’s favorite foods—on the screen and on viewers’ plates. This is the fifth year of the festival, which is October 13-16 at Tribeca Cinemas.

Fine Cooking is thrilled to be a media sponsor and honored to have a film up for an award (in the intriguingly named Best Food Porn category). As viewers watch Fine Cooking’s step-by-step video on making “Dinner for Two: An Edible Valentine in Three Acts,” they will be served bites of the succulent steamed lobster that is the centerpiece of the menu. The video was produced by our own Sarah Breckenridge and the filmmaker John Craig Ross.

The fun trailer is above, but you can watch the complete video here.

I’ve also got my eye on the short film called Banh and Mi, which documents the steps to making a perfect banh mi sandwich. If it’s anything like Robert Danhi’s version, I won’t be going home hungry.

Beyond the more than 25 films vying for awards, the festival is a must-attend for all area foodies, with off-screen events such as a “The Tribeca Taco Takedown” on Saturday afternoon and “The Food Porn Party” on Saturday night (where Fine Cooking recipes will be featured!).

With the motto, “Taste what you see on the screen,” this is one film fest worth seeking out. Tickets and VIP passes can be purchased through DailyCandy.com. See you there!
