This fish and chips recipe is no joke. And the story behind it is pretty darn cute, too. Danielle is the voice behind Beyond the Plate, a stylish and colorful food blog that provides readers with one part great food and one part life stories, all combined with an array of gorgeous photos.

As the story goes, Danielle met her future life partner at a pub on St. Patrick's Day in Singapore. Standard? Probably not. (But if that's not the luck of the Irish, then I don't know what is!) Anyhow, the Guinness flowed, the music blared and salty, greasy "pub grub," as Danielle calls it, was available for all to enjoy. So it's no wonder that fish and chips, and all of those other satisfying pub foods conjure up thoughts of young love and happy memories for Danielle.

Today, she recalls her first run-in with her future beau by whipping up a batch of this flaky, crunchy beer-battered fish and homemade chips. There's just nothing like this classic English meal, which has made its way onto restaurant and bar menus alike—especially during holidays as spirited as St. Patrick's Day—for possibly one reason only...it's the best meal to eat while drinking!

This St. Patty's day, why not have your friends and family over for a delicious pub-style meal, complete with fish, chips, Irish soda bread and plenty of Irish whiskey and beer? You could meet your soul mate just like Danielle. If not, at least the food will be good!
