When I was trying to figure out what my next post would be this week, I knew I wanted to do something about Father's Day. I know the trend is to think meat, "man meals" and grilling on this dad-centric day, but for some reason I had things on my mind that were a bit on the sweeter side. I've heard a lot of men say that they don't really have a sweet tooth or that they just don't like desserts. Sure...

While this is sometimes true for my dad, too, (he'll take a few slices of cheese over a piece of cake any day) he definitely does have one sweet weakness. A "sweakness," if you will, and it lays within the sweet-salty flavor depths of two ingredients: chocolate and peanut butter. He also loves the chocolate-covered pretzel rods my mom, sister and I make during the holidays.

So naturally when I came across these Chocolate Peanut Butter Pretzel Bites from Jessica on The Novice Chef, I knew I'd found my Father's Day sweet that just about any man would love. The great thing about these sweet and salty pretzel treats is that they're quick and super simple to prepare. You whip together the peanut butter and sugar mixture, roll it into balls, squish it in between two flat pretzels and dip half (or the whole thing, if you're feeling really daring) into some melted chocolate. A little shower of flaky sea salt on top of the chocolate adds a decorative touch and an extra layer of flavor, and once these little guys have set up, there's just no telling how long they'll last.

Even if you were planning that meaty, grilled "man meal" for dinner this Father's Day, there's no reason why you can't end the night with something on the sweet side. Right, Dad? Happy Father's Day, everyone!
