Win Grace Young's Must-Have Cooking Tools

By Robyn Doyon-Aitken, Web producer

December 27th, 2012

Update: Congrats to Diane W. (aka silanti). Her comment was picked at random and she is the winner of the prize. Thanks to everyone who participated in the giveaway. Want to try your luck again? Tour Melissa Clark's kitchen and enter to win her favorite kitchen items.

Cookbook author Grace Young's 60-square-foot kitchen is designed with Chinese cooking in mind: Her extra-deep countertop is the ideal space for stir-fry prep, roll-out cabinet shelves hold a (growing) collection of woks, a deep single-bowl sink accommodates even her largest wok, and her KitchenAid stove includes a special grate that doubles as a wok pedestal when she's in the mood to use her traditional Cantonese round-bottom wok. If you're suddenly in the mood for a stir-fry, I understand.

Go Behind the Kitchen Door to tour Grace's kitchen and learn more about what makes it an ideal space for wok cooking.

Your kitchen may not be designed with Chinese-style cooking in mind, but that doesn't mean you can't fire up your wok using some of the tools Grace uses every day. Leave a comment below for a chance to win Grace's must-have cooking tools. I'll pick a winner Wednesday, February 27 (a nice way to begin the Chinese New Year) and announce the winner Thursday, February 28.

Bonus prize: Grace and her publisher have graciously offered up a signed copy of her award-winning book, Stir Frying to the Sky's Edge, so you'll have plenty of recipes and inspiration to go along with your new wok.

NOTE: Giveaway is now closed.

No crunchy vege's and overcooked meat in the finished recipes that I have tried in the past....Being a 'newbie' of Grace's site I hope to become a more proficient cooker of Asian cuisine.I have learned that using the proper tools in preparing food makes the job that much more time saving and a much better outcome in the end. Being selected to win Grace's 'must have tools' would be an added bonus for me since getting turned on to your site! I'm a willing student ready to learn; Thanks for sharing with us all! :)

They, too, use it for not only stir frying but deep frying and steaming. Our family has many happy food memories that began with the wok. Posted: 11:53 am on January 22nd

I felt compelled to purchase a carbon steel wok, and a wok spatula after reading her introduction and now love to wok. I wish I had the hardcover version as it is a little cumbersome to cook from a Kindle (it shuts off after awhile during cooking).

I really like the picture of Grace holding her cat. I have an orange and white tabby that looks almost exactly like hers--we call him Merlin, but most often we call him by his nickname "Rascal!" when he does something naughty. Posted: 8:39 pm on January 20th

toleliz writes: Loved the kitchen, the photos and the explanations of why Grace chose the equipment and layout for her kitchen that she did. I loved meeting Henley too-I wonder if he lies on that large curved counter to supervise the preparations in the kitchen (I know that my own kitty Mitzi certainly would try)
I found Graces's comment about preferring home cooked to restaurant meals interesting and we like nothing better ourselves than to get together with friends and a good home cooked meal. I have a little triangular area above a corner cabinet that has a gargoyle blowing a "raspberry". (It's a reminder to not take myself too seriously) but I think that the next time that I'm in Chinatown I may look for a small kitchen god to keep there too (one can never be too sure) Posted: 5:48 pm on January 20th
