Win an Anna Thomas Cookbook Prize Pack

The James Beard-award-winning, Love Soup

The James Beard-award-winning, Love Soup

By Robyn Doyon-Aitken, Web producer

August 29th, 2013

If you listened to Anna Thomas describe her kitchen in the latest Behind the Kitchen Door tour, you already know how unassuming and modest she is. In a conversation with me, she referred to her groundbreaking cookbook, The Vegetarian Epicure, as "that book I wrote in college." First published more than 40 years ago, that book she wrote in college is still THE authority on vegetarian cooking and eating. If you've got a copy, it's dog-eared with plenty of spills and drips on it.

If you don't have a copy of The Vegetarian Epicure, here's your chance.

Anna has graciously offered up a signed copy of The Vegetarian Epicure, along with her latest cookbook, Love Soup, which won a James Beard award in 2010.

Leave a comment below for your chance to win a signed copy of Anna's first and latest book. I'll pick a winner at random on Friday, October 25. (Now closed).

Update: Congrats to MGarrison! Her comment was picked at random and she's the winner of Anna's cookbook prize pack. Enjoy the books, M!

I eat it at least 5 days a week, year- round, and my favorite way to entertain is to have "soup'n'bread" parties- I make a few kinds of soup, and friends bring savory breads like cheddar cornbread or homemade sourdough. It would be so nice to have another set of delicious soup recipes to add to my repertoire!

maryhill53 writes: Fine Cooking magazine was my gift of choice for my adored sister this past year. It truly is all about fine cooking. I selected it on the basis of the other outstanding Taunton Press magazines I have had the pleasure to purchase in the past. I always end up giving the gift that I would most love to get myself:) Maybe this year I WILL give it to myself for the holidays:)

I have actually purchased the Anna Thomas "Love Soup" cookbook because I have been experimenting with vegetarianism as a way to control muscle inflammation and blood pressure (with great results too by the way). I have made half a dozen of these soups with great success. I truly love the book and have already determined that this is going to be another one of those Christmas gifts to my cooking friends and family members. I know they will love it too. I looked for the "Vegetarian Epicure" but was put off by the price so I would be so grateful to win this as a prize. This was a happy find to be allowed an opportunity to try to win it:) Thank you so much Fine Cooking. Keep up the Fine work:) Posted: 10:01 am on October 22nd

As a personal chef, I designed my own kitchen centered around two parallel 3x7 foot islands that has proven to accommodate seven cooks simultaneously. I have a personal collection of more than 500 cookbooks. None are signed by the author. It would be an honor to have a copy of Anna's "Love Soup". Posted: 9:32 am on October 22nd

jami_lee writes: What a perfect and lovely kitchen. I live on a bayou and also have my kitchen as part of my living room. I also have the long island..but it would have been GREAT had I seen Anna's deign ideas before I did mine (which was after a Great Hurricane destroyed most of my house). But we carry on, don't we all! I remember making a complete Indian dinner with friends from her Epicurian cookbook. I though I would be young forever and know much more than anybody else..forever.
Live and learn. One thing remains: I still use Anna Thomas
Vegeterian Cookbooks regularly. My sister and I share her recipes idea from our very faded and old original cookbooks held together with rubber bands. How I wish we could time travel and do it again! Thank you Anna. Posted: 8:11 am on October 11th
