By Kathy Brennan and Caroline Campion (Rodale, $26.99)
I know it's not true, but I secretly believe that former Saveur editors Kathy Brennan and Caroline Campion, wrote Keepers just for me. (Full disclosure: I once worked with them, too.) Filled with genius tips, strategies, menu ideas, and of course, recipes (130 of them), their book really does answer the age-old question of "What's for dinner?" Whether you're a parent, a couple without kids, or just a cook stuck in a rut, there's something in here for you. Among the chapters (all savory and mostly organized by main ingredient), my hands-down favorite is "Lifesavers," which is filled with recipes for the easily made condiments that the authors call "refrigerator gold." Indeed, their four-ingredient ginger-scallion sauce alone has already elevated my weeknight cooking deliciously.
