turbinado sugar

Recipes using turbinado sugar

turbinado sugar

a.k.a.

raw sugar

what is it?

A coarse, crunchy, golden sugar with a slight molasses flavor. Familiar to many people under the brand name Sugar in the Raw, it's great for for adding sparkle and crunch to the outside of baked goods like cookies or rustic fruit tarts. We also like to sprinkle it over grilled fruit.

don't have it?

Substitute demerara sugar, which has slightly larger crystals. Sanding sugar is also good for adding sparkle to baked goods, but it doesn't have the same molasses flavor.

how to store:

Store airtight in a cool dry place as you would granulated sugar.
