Fine Cooking contributing editor Maryellen Driscoll has one beauty of a vintage range/oven, but on a hot summer night, you're much more likely to find her standing at her massive reclaimed-wood kitchen island prepping a colorful salad.

Behind the Kitchen Door: Tour Maryellen's kitchen

Maryellen and her farmer husband Ken Fruehstorfer own and run Free Bird Farm in rural upstate New York. Their specialty: growing more than 50 varieties of high-quality, fresh vegetables and herbs without synthetic fertilizers, chemical pesticides or fungicides. That's a lot of (really good) salad.

If you're making a lot of salads on your own farm (or house) you'll need a trusty spinner to spin those greens clean.

Leave a comment below to enter to win our lastest giveaway: Oxo's Good Grips Salad Spinner. We'll pick a winner at random on Friday, September 5, 2014 and notify the lucky herbivore by email. (Now closed).

PDXDiane writes: I would love a new Oxo Salad Spinner as my old one has a crack in the lid and is about 20 years old. It has the pull string and I think this one would operate much more smoothly. Love your magazine & emails. Thanks. Posted: 6:32 pm on September 3rd

ndupuis writes: I would be thrilled to have a salad spinner from OXO. I had one previously, but it got lost in the shuffle earlier this year when I moved house. Honestly, not owning a salad spinner has kept me from making salads as much as I would like to this summer. Drying the lettuce can be a real hassle. I also love how much better certain greens, such as kale, tend to hold on to dressings when they have been dried in a spinner. Posted: 6:30 pm on September 3rd

TinaCooks writes: Love, love the reclaimed and repurposed kitchen. Lovely, functional and delightful. I recently lost my beloved salad spinner to 'old age.' While I wait to replace it, my technique has been placing damp greens in a kitchen towel and vigorously spinning with my shoulder as the center of the circle. Works well with the exception of frequently spattering water about the kitchen. thankfully, the water is clean. Posted: 7:54 pm on September 2nd

If I don't win one, I think I'm gonna dies!
Give away my garlic press, and all my lame supplies,
Please let me win the OXO spinner, so that my lettuce dries!!!

Mine spinner broke recently, so this would be a much-appreciated win, and would save me from the ignominious fate of drying my lettuce a la Mr. Bean--by putting it in a sock and spinning it around over my head like a lasso.

Crossing my fingers!
