Re:Brussels Sprouts with Toasted Hazelnut Butter

Maybe it was just that there were too many flavors on the Thanksgiving table, but the flavor didn't really come through, and they didn't caramelize nicely either. They weren't bad, but I wouldn't bother to make this recipe again.

Re:Homemade Marshmallow Chicks

I have been making things from Fine Cooking for about ten years, and this is the first total dud. After 10 minutes, I tried piping, and it was a runny mess. I beat the mixture for a few more minutes, and got a few decent looking chicks, but then the mixture was too cold and stiff to work with. It was nearly imopossible to refill the pastry bag. I got about a dozen chicks and a bunch of turd looking things, and then I gave up and put the mixture into a container. It is very tasty, but the batch was way too big to reasonably work with. I would try it again, maybe cutting the recipe in three.

Re:Goat Cheese, Lemon & Chive Turnovers

Easy and delicious! However, the batch I made where I accidentally cut the pastry into 16 squares instead of 9 turned out much better - I will definitely make it that way in the future. I put a heaping teaspoon of filling on each square, and the finished triangles were a much better size for appetizers.

Re:Spicy Peanut Noodles with Ground Pork and Shredded Vegetables

I made this with one chili pepper, as the majority of our family prefers things less spicy, and found it completely boring and tasteless - not even any real peanut taste, which was surprising. I had high hopes for this dish.

Re:Brown Sugar & Sour Cream Pumpkin Pie

We love this pie - my husband will no longer eat any other pumpkin pie. I've made it all at once and followed the make-ahead directions, and it's perfect every time. Even better with homemade pumpkin puree from our CSA share sugar pumpkins!

Re:Perfect Grilled Pork Tenderloin

Foolproof and delicious - made supermarket pork taste like pork from our organic farm share. The glaze got a little burnt, but it was delicious.

Re:Sesame Noodles with Chicken

I've been trying for years to find a good sesame noodles recipe, and I finally found one that suits my taste buds. As another poster mentioned, I could not find ginger-flavored soy sauce, so I used tamari and added a pinch of ginger. I also used sliced, pounded chicken breasts instead of tenders. I've shared this with several friends, and will definitely make it again!

Re:Orecchiette with Tomatoes, Basil & Ricotta Salata

Really disappointing. I made this with tomatoes and basil from my garden, and it was surprisingly bland. I might try it again, letting the sauce sit for a while, to see if that helps, but my husband called it a "waste of a good garden tomato". To be fair, I used dried shell pasta instead of orecchiette, as I didn't have the time to make pasta and couldn't find orecchiette in the supermarket.

Re:Cream Cheese Swirls

Even with my largest star tip and everything at room temperature, these were nearly impossible to pipe. After destroying two pastry bags, I gave up and shaped them by hand. THe hand shaped ones weren't nearly as good as the ones I managed to pipe. I may try this in a cookie press in the future, as they were very tasty cookies.

Re:Brown Sugar Spice Cookies

These became a family favorite the first time I made them, and they are now a mandatory entry on my holiday cookie list. Wonderful with a cup of tea!
