Re:Honey-Spiced Madeleines

Lovely recipe. Fun to try a madeleine flavor apart from the ubiquitous lemon/orange blossom water. I completely omitted the baking powder because I was afraid I'd be able to taste it in the final product (I'd never used baking powder in a madeleine recipe before anyway), and they still produced that beautiful hump. I also browned the butter instead of just melting it because I looooove brown butter! I'll be making these again.

Re:Vanilla-Bean Sablé Cookies

These are one of the greatest discoveries I've ever made on this site. For small impromptu gatherings of friends, we often sit around drinking tea while we chat--these are a perfect complement to that. Now I'm sure to always have a log or two of dough waiting in the freezer because I can have them sliced and baked in half an hour flat, and by the time everyone arrives I have delicious cookies that receive rave reviews!

Re:Black Bean Soup with Sweet Potatoes

Loved this soup! I'm another one of those who substituted fennel since it's what I had around--great combination of flavor. People seem to be having issues with using dried beans but they worked well for me. Be sure to COOK the beans before you make this soup. Beans take about an hour to cook after soaking, so the 15 minutes of simmering in this recipe wouldn't be sufficient.

Re:Plum Tart with Lemon Shortbread Crust

Delicious, looks so impressive, and is surprisingly easy to make. I heeded the advice of the others here and halved the lemon zest in the crust to a single teaspoon--it tasted PERFECT this way, but any more would've been overkill.

Re:Pineapple and Macadamia Nut Tart

I have made this tart several times for small parties and it leaves such an impression that people talk about it for months afterward! The delicious combination of flavors and stunning presentation can't be beat--and no one will ever guess this gorgeous tart has such an easy, no-fuss assembly. Just don't grind the macadamias in the crust too fine; the crunch from the larger pieces is very satisfying.

Re:Spiced Tomato & Red Lentil Soup

I'd agree with a couple of previous posters and say this soup is on the verge of greatness as-is, but a little bland, no depth. To round it out I added just a splash of white vinegar (about 2 Tablespoons) and it really filled out the flavor for me.
