Re:Braised Pacific Halibut with Leeks, Mushrooms, and Clams

This is amazing! The combination of halibut, mushrooms, clams, and leeks makes for a very nice flavor and texture profile.

Re:Creamy Oyster and Shiitake Stew

This is wonderful! I couldn't find shiitake mushrooms at the grocery store, so I substituted portabellas instead--plus I added a little lemon juice and a minced clove of garlic to the stew. Finally, I topped each bowl of soup with shards of Parmigiano-Reggiano. It was great. :)

Re:Sour Cherry & Walnut Scones

Very good! :) I omitted the walnuts and was still very happy with the result.

Re:Orange Layer Cake

Probably the best citrus cake I've ever tasted. It has plenty of orange flavour; and the cake crumb is tender and moist. While making this cake is definitely more time-consuming than using the ubiquitous Betty Crocker recipe, it is by no means an all-day project, and the results are worthwhile. :) I'll definitely be making this again!

Re:Brown Butter Pumpkin Layer Cake

Excellent! The browned butter definitely adds an interesting flavour twist, and the pepitas/nuts are great for texture relief. I would make this again and might try adding rum to the cake batter, as the flavour rather closely resembles that of pumpkin bread and is a bit bland.

Re:Gingerbread Cookies

These cookies are good, although I was disappointed with the amount of spread during baking (even with cool cookie sheets and chilling the dough overnight). I thought these were rather mediocre.

Re:Red Velvet Cake

Excellent! I used a different cream cheese icing recipe so can't comment on the frosting; but the cake was wonderful. One other note: do *not* skimp on the amount of red food colouring. I followed the advice of some reviewers and used less than the recipe called for. The resulting cake was too brown--not the rich red that a true red velvet cake should be!

Re:Peanut Butter Sandwich Cookies

Superb, as are most Fine Cooking recipes! An interesting twist on the classic peanut butter cookie recipe, and the addition of chocolate in the filling is very good.

Re:Fresh Herb and Salt-Rubbed Roasted Turkey

Excellent! I was amazed by the moistness of the turkey meat and also found the short roasting time convenient. This is probably my favorite turkey recipe yet--the herbs, olive oil, and salt create a delicious flavor combination!
