This is an excellent recipe. The tamarind really does compliment the sweetness of the dates perfectly. I served this as a light appetizer before Thanksgiving with crackers and manchego as recommended and everyone loved it.

I made this in 2000 and remembered it being a lot of work. The cold weather enticed me into making it again, and it still seemed like a lot of work for one meal. However, everyone who had it absolutely loved it. I made it with a full bodied cabernet sauvignon this time and it came out beautifully.

I have to agree with the first reviewer. This recipe was bland, it looked beautiful in the pictures and when served, but there was no depth. Maybe if you add yogurt between the layers it would taste like a nice parfait. As is, it felt like I was eating 3 ice cream toppings without the ice cream.

This recipe is excellent. I made it the day after I got the issue in the mail and everyone loved it - even those who don't like spice. The only ingredient I couldn't locate was the lime leaves, and it was delicious without them. This is definitely worth trying.

This recipe is amazing and the chile sauce is definitely worth making. For the sauce, I roasted 2 jalapenos on a charcoal grill along with the anaheim chilis then pureed the jalapenos with the tomatillos and it came out great.
