Re:Caramelized Pear Upside-Down Cake

Fabulous! This cake is simple to make if you follow the directions--I made it while baking shortbread and sharing a small kitchen with someone else! I didn't have a 2" deep round pan, so I baked it in a deep square casserole dish, and used the extra pear slices around the perimeter of the cake. I served the cake warm with vanilla ice cream. I loved the delicate spicing, the super moist cake, and the combination of caramel with the perfume-y pears. My father isn't big on desserts, so he only wanted a taste--and in a nearly unprecedented move, he went back for more! This cake is a winner!

Re:Whole-Wheat Pancakes with Strawberry Sauce

I made half of this recipe for dinner tonight. I had no buttermilk, so I used the old vinegar & milk trick. I found these pancakes to be pretty mediocre. Mine were far thinner than the picture, and had a texture somewhere between soft and rubbery. The taste was good, though.

These are some of my favorite brownies, and I'm very picky about my brownies. I usually add more chopped chocolate than I'm supposed to- they're always delicious!

I just adore this recipe when I'm looking for a decadent breakfast. I've actually only made it using banana or pumpkin bread- and that is wonderful! Who can argue with battered & fried cake for breakfast? I love it served with whipped cream. I've even cooked leftover batter for pudding, which works out pretty well.

Delicious! I've made this for Christmas brunch and for a large dinner party. I always make sure to add a healthy dose of chocolate chips, and I bet peanut butter chips would be delicious, too. At the dinner party people were diving in & serving themselves, and begging for seconds!

Re:Black & Blueberry Pie with Lemon-Cornmeal Crust

This is a delicious pie! The flavors meld wonderfully, and it's just sweet enough. I found the pastry quite easy to work with, though I had to add a tbsp or so of extra liquid. I rolled it out between sheets of wax paper, and whenever it started to get sticky I popped everything in the freezer for a couple minutes. The crust browned really quickly, though- mine probably should have been tented after the initial 425 bake.

Re:Hummus with Mellow Garlic & Cumin

WOW. Before this recipe, I thought I liked hummus. Now I LOVE hummus- as long as it's this hummus. Since making my first batch I've made 2 more in a matter of days, and devoured each one with crackers, carrots, and a spoon. Incredible. Perfectly garlicky (I add another clove or 2), and the cumin & soy sauce add great flavor without being overpowering, or even distinguishable. A perfect meld of flavors! Delicious!
