Cutting fudge uniformly

I give gifts of fudge during the holiday season and have discovered an easy way to cut them into uniform pieces. I make a template out of paper that is about 11 inches long and 1-1/2 inches wide, with pencil marks at one-inch intervals. I then lay the paper across the cooled fudge in the pan and make marks on the edge of the fudge according to the 1 inch markings on my template, both vertically and horizontally.  This enables me to cut the fudge into exact 1-inch pieces which fit perfectly into small paper candy cups. This would also work for bar cookies, brownies, etc., changing the markings to the size desired.
