Chinese Five-Spice Powder

Yield: Makes about 1/4 cup.

Chinese five-spice powder adds a deep, rich flavor to Asian-Glazed Braised Short Ribs.

Ingredients

  • 4 whole star anise pods
  • 3 2-1/2-inch cinnamon sticks
  • 1 Tbs. whole cloves
  • 1 Tbs. fennel seed
  • 1 Tbs. Sichuan peppercorns

Preparation

  • Combine all the ingredients in a spice grinder. PulseĀ until finely ground. Store in an airtight container in a cool, dark place for up to 6 months.
