Dessert in a Cookie

Classic desserts like crème brûlée or chocolate mousse are timeless because they hit all the right dessert notes: well balanced flavors, rich, interesting textures, and elegant presentations. So, why not take inspiration from these classics to make festive holiday cookies?

We’ve taken six crowd-pleasing classic desserts—Sacher Torte, Crêpes Suzette, Cherries Jubilee, Chocolate Mousse, Crème Brûlée, and Lemon Meringue Pie—and created a wide variety of intriguing cookies that riff off their flavors, textures and appearance. These new cookies will breathe new life into your holiday cookie repertoire and savor the best of both worlds—classic desserts and cookies. In fact, you’ll probably enjoy these recipes year-round.

Inspiration: The Sacher Torte

The Sacher torte—chocolate sponge cake layered with apricot jam and covered in dark chocolate icing—becomes cakey cookies filled with preserves and dipped in bittersweet chocolate.

Inspiration: Crêpes Suzette

Citrus cookies with a Grand Marnier glaze take their cue from the classic dessert of flambéed crêpes and boozy orange sauce.

Inspiration: Cherries Jubilee

Here, cherries jubilee—sweet cherries in a spiked syrup over vanilla ice cream—becomes biscotti with dried cherries, toasted almonds, and white chocolate.

Inspiration: Chocolate Mousse

Like any good mousse, these cookies are all about the chocolate. The dough has both cocoa and bittersweet chocolate, and the ganache filling is rich and dark.

Inspiration: Crème Brûlée

Bursting with vanilla flavor, these cookies sport the burnt-sugar topping of their namesake.

Inspiration: Lemon Meringue Pie

Crisp meringue buttons (the meringue) are sprinkled with gingersnap crumbs (the crust) and sandwiched around a vibrant lemon curd (the filling).
