Tom Collins

Scott Phillips

Servings: one.

Order this cool classic at a bar and you’ll likely get a glassful of commercial sour mix, which will give the drink a chemical aftertaste; make it at home with fresh lemon juice and it’s hard to beat.

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup Tanqueray gin or other London dry gin
  • 2 Tbs. fresh lemon juice
  • 2 Tbs. simple syrup
  • 1/2 cup soda water
  • One orange slice, for garnish
  • One maraschino or fresh cherry, for garnish

Preparation

  • Shake the gin, lemon juice, syrup, and four or five ice cubes in a cocktail shaker. Strain over ice into a Collins glass, top with the soda, and stir. Garnish with the orange slice and cherry.

This is really really good. You can't even compare drinks like this made with real homemade simple syrup and the stuff they use in some (bad) bars and sell in supermarkets. If you have never had a Tom Collins made with fresh ingredients, then you have never really had a Tom Collins! Try it, making simple syrup is as the name says, simple!!

Fan-freaking-tastic!! Not a big gin drinker, but this cocktail was super refreshing in the summer heat. Just as yummy with vodka. Will always make from scratch!
