If I had to recommend one great kitchen tool every cook shouldn’t live without – it would have to be a hand slicer.  Here are the top three reasons why I think it is such a great gadget:

1.  It is small and fits nicely in any drawer.
2. It is easy to clean – (now that’s important!)
3. It slices vegetables uniformly and paper thin (not even the best knife skills can compare).

If you don’t have one of these nifty little devices – I think it is time to add it to your inventory.  Oh and did I mention that they are completely affordable.

I also have the kyocera and I love it--so much easier than hauling out and setting up the mandoline. I also just got the similar kyocera julienne slicer but haven't used it yet.

The one that we have in the test kitchen is Kyocera and it works great. Oxo also makes a good one.

I need one of these. Any recommendations on the best brand?
