Ripe Warren pears on the tree
Looking for a holiday gift for that hard-to-buy-for person in your life? Well, here you go. Frog Hollow Farm in California (outside of San Francisco) is selling their incredibly juicy organic Warren Pears online through January, and I can’t think of a better edible gift. Originally known as the Hattiesburg Post Office pear (because they were discovered growing on a tree outside the town’s post office), the pears were later named after their founder, Thomas Oscar Warren, a Hattiesburg horticulturalist.
They are some of the best pears I’ve ever eaten – smooth, buttery, not-too-sweet, and so juicy I couldn’t eat a whole pear without a napkin on hand. Yum! They’d be delicious with cheddar or blue cheeses, in tarts or cakes, poached in wine, in salads, and on sandwiches. You can buy the pears directly from Frog Hollow Farm, where they cost $24 for a 6-pack or $34 for a 12-pack (plus shipping). And they’re absolutely worth it.
