So I guess you really CAN find everything on the Internet.
As a chestnut fan, I never hesitate to order Mont Blanc when I see it on a dessert menu. Unfortunately, in the U.S. it’s pretty rare to find this dessert of pureed chestnuts and cream mounded to resemble the French mountain. Chalk it up to Americans’ lack of familiarity with chestnuts (and, let’s be honest, the unfortunate piping of the dessert that can make it look like a plate of brains).
As I was trolling the Internet for pumpkin recipes, I came across this riff on the Mont Blanc, which uses pumpkin instead of chestnut puree. Although the traditional Mont Blanc is rarely part of an American cook’s repertoire, blogger Ellie at Almost Bourdain feels comfortable enough with the dessert to give it her own twist. The pumpkin sounds delicious, as does the fact that it’s perched on Rice Krispies and chocolate.
Plus, I love how she embraced the whole brains resemblance and turned this into a Halloween dessert.
