Think of Back to Basics’ cast-iron Peel Away Peeler as the original spiralizer: It can handily shave the peel off an apple or potato in about four seconds, and it also has an attachment that lets you simultaneously peel, core, and slice an apple into perfect 1⁄4-inch-thick slices (or spiralize a potato for curly fries). While it may not qualify as a kitchen essential, if you do a lot of baking with apples (or peel a lot of potatoes), this little machine will save you time and effort and amuse you in the process.
