You might have noticed that since we started our Grill-lympics challenge last month, there’s been nary a sweet highlighted on our Best of the Blogs. No treats, no chocolate-covered anything, no desserts. Just meat, meat, and more meat. That ends today. We’ve officially entered the Wild Card portion of the Grill-lympics, where anything goes, including desserts hot off the grill.
Rebecca, from Cooking with My Kid, speaks my language in her Grilled Fruit Crisp post. Too hot to bake, and without ac in my kitchen, dessert of late has consisted of berries, watermelon slices, or “Dream-up Ice Pops” (they’re whatever fruity flavor combos the kids in my house dream up). No one’s complained, per se, but I do miss finishing off a meal with something warm and indulgent.
Rebecca’s crisp fits the bill, and she (and her little helper) cook her crisp in the grill for 12-18 minutes, or about the time it takes my kids to work their way completely around a slippery ear of corn or negotiate the bites of meat they’re required to finish before dessert.
