Welcome to Homegrown/Homemade. I’m a cook who needs some help in the garden and Fine Gardening‘s Danielle Sherry is a gardener who needs some help in the kitchen. We’ve teamed up to show gardeners and cooks of all skill levels how get the most out of their crops from seed to plate. Here, we’re growing and cooking one of my all-time favorites: Strawberries.

Episode One: How to Plant Strawberries
If you’ve ever ordered strawberry plants through the mail, you’ve probably noticed they can arrive looking a little rough. Danielle shares her tips for rejuvenating the roots in preparation for planting. She’ll also walk me through the differences in my strawberry varieties and explain why I can expect a big harvest in June and smaller harvests until frost.

My grandfather had a little strawberry area in his garden! Being there is one of my best summer memories!
