It’s the ultimate summer paradox: You want a crowd-pleasing post-barbecue dessert, but it’s too hot to even think about turning on your oven.
There’s no shame in putting off your double-crusted fruit pies and layer cakes until a thunderstorm ushers in less steamy temps. These breezy no-bake treats let you leave the oven off and still make finales fit for company.
Here are some things to consider as you (don’t) bake:
- Add contrast to the cool and creamy. Cookies, chocolate shards, toasted almonds, and a fresh fruit sauce make these sweets special. Otherwise you may as well just serve some ice cream.
- Use the best fruit. Since it isn’t cooked, there’s no hiding a bad apple (or peach, in this case).
- Cold mutes flavors, so let these cool treats warm up ever so slightly before serving.
