It was my dad’s birthday this past weekend. Instead of getting him a cake that nobody would really enjoy anyway, we decided to go to our local farm/favorite ice cream stand to get him his sweet birthday surprise. Needless to say the cake replacement was actually a gallon of his favorite-flavored ice cream, peanut butter chip. We got it home, took the lid off, and squished two recycled “5” and “2” candles (sorry, Dad) down into the surface of the ice cream. Then we lit them with the grill torch and sang away as we watched the wax trickle down and instantly harden. He loved it.
Because of my family’s love for ice cream (my mom, sister and I can’t get enough of it either, but most of the time we refrain) I decided to share this incredibly decadent, slightly sinful ice cream from one of my favorite blogs. I’ve had my eye on Dash and Bella for quite some time now. Phyllis writes like modern women and mothers think, just read this Summer Vinyasa post, you’ll die. I also love that she comes up with genius recipes like this Bittersweet Chocolate Almond Caramel Swirl Ice Cream.
She has one heck of a culinary pedigree too. Here’s a little excerpt from her bio: “Phyllis worked in pastry at New York City’s Bouley, Michael’s, and Nobu. She tired quickly of sugar and burning her forearms and never sleeping.” She named her blog after her son and daughter, refuses to feed them “kid food” and has been writing about her beautiful recipes and family ever since. Check out Dash and Bella today for many beautiful ideas and the courage to feed your kids something other than PB&J.
