Jazzing up sugar syrup

When making sugar syrups to sweeten tea or cocktails, try adding citrus zest or ginger root to the sugar and water syrup when boiling.  Lime-scented syrup is great with mojitos and ginger syrup adds interest to any tropical cocktail.  The zest even lends a little color and makes for pretty drinks.
