I decided to stop drinking soda.  It was a hard decision and a difficult one to see through.  I love Diet Coke.  It is my only source of caffeine, and the sparkly sweetness of it truly was a party in my mouth.  So I began my journey to find other things to drink besides water, and since this company doesn’t appreciate drinking wine during the day, I had to pursue other options.

I started thinking about what I used to drink when I was little, when soda was a drink for special occasions.  So I turned to juices.  I don’t like making my own juice, so they would have to be store-bought. And since you can’t bring anything through these doors containing high fructose corn syrup or additives without getting a serious talking-to from the group, it had to be all-natural.

I turned to the juice that was my absolute favorite as a kid, mango nectar.  It is easily the best-tasting stuff on earth.  There will be those who say, “No!  It’s too sweet.  It’s too thick.”  I can see that, but I think it is positively luscious.

Mango nectar (Goya, specifically, my go-to brand) is very sweet, a bit thick, but it has a subtle tartness that really makes it something you want to drink.  I drink it straight, very cold and in small amounts; a little goes a long way.  But my favorite way to drink it is over a glass full of crushed ice, which waters down the drink ever so slightly to a perfect consistency, and the cold brings out the flavor.  I also use mango nectar in my mimosas instead of orange juice, a definite must try!

So now, even though my mouth waters and I perk up whenever I hear the signature opening of a can of Diet Coke, I reach for my mango nectar and I feel comforted by its tropical goodness.

I love mango juice! I especially like to mix it with a little bit of orange juice! It's a tangy and sweet all at the same time...YUM! Trader Joe's Mango juice isn't half bad!
