Growing up around an old world grandmother has caused me to associate mason jars with basement and garage shelves lined with pickled vegetables, stuffed peppers, and what looked like the insides of animals (things my parents had to bribe me into trying). But Jessica from “How Sweet It Is” has reintroduced the nostalgic kitchen item to me in a whole new light; I can fill it with fun things that I actually enjoy eating, like her S’mores Cake in a Jar.
She layers a crumbled graham cracker crust, a double chocolate chip cake batter, and a fluffy, toasted marshmallow topping, which oozes out of the top of the container as it bakes. The crust- and cake-filled jars are simply placed in a water bath and popped in the oven. It’s safe to say the only shelf these jars will touch is the top rack in the oven.
Who knew a mason jar could add so much charm (and dramatically reduce the mess of) a favorite fireside treat.
My only concern with this recipe is finding a long enough spoon to reach every delicious morsel.

looks like fun! I think I might make it in 8 oz jars though.
