The Super Bowl is just one more excuse to have a party, right? In this post, the Fine Cooking editors share a few recipe ideas, admit to loving the commercials more than the sport, and ask what you’ll be making for the big game. Also, if you need a little help serving up a winning menu for your party, check out our Super Bowl party menu maker and browse the collection of recipes perfect for game night (or any other night you might feel inspired to paint your face black and gold).

OK, full disclosure: I hate football. But the Super Bowl is the perfect excuse to throw a party with “man food,” and nothing says “man food” more to me than succulent ribs. Pair the ribs up with a couple of great hand-held sides, like sweet potato fries and onion rings, add my husband’s homemade beer, and we’re ready to party.

I’m with Juli—not really a football fan. I just love the ads! If we watch the game at a party this year, I’ll bring Warm Black Bean & Chipotle Dip. It’s a must for a crowd, and a great make-and-take option.

Am I the only one around here who likes football?! The Vikings vs. Saints game was great—you guys are missing out! For me, it’s not a football game without chips and dip. The Warm Black Bean and Chipotle dip that Rebecca mentions is great, and I also really like this Golden Onion and Thyme Dip (both are from contributing editor, Tony Rosenfeld). Oh, and my recipe for Hummus with Mellow Garlic and Cumin is pretty tasty, too, if I do say so myself. And, don’t forget the Homemade Pita Chips!

Since the Buffalo Bills, my hometown team, haven’t played in the Super Bowl since their disastrous FOUR losses in a row in the early 90s, I am not usually glued to the tube on Super Bowl night. But my sister and I recently tackled Thy Tran’s Chinese dumplings for one of the playoff games and they were a huge hit with the guys. We made a double batch, and ate them all!

With the Saints in the Big Show, I’m pulling out my gumbo pot and making Poppy Tooker’s Seafood Gumbo, loaded with shrimp, crab, and okra. The best thing is, it can be made the day ahead and reheated, so I won’t miss a minute of the game (or the commercials).

So, there you have it: our strategy for keeping the spectators cheering on game night. Tell us what you’ll be serving. . .and what you’re sure won’t make it to the half-time show.
