Sliced apples
I love to mix sweet with savory. Brie with jam? Of course. Chocolate covered bacon? Sure, why not! So when I stumbled upon Jessica’s food post, entitled Whole Wheat Autumn Apple Pizza, I ferociously scrolled through the recipe and photos, as if there would be a real, live pizza at the end waiting for me to devour it. Of course there wasn’t (working at Fine Cooking isn’t that magical!) and I was only left with a rather unattractive puddle of drool sitting on my keyboard. I suppose I must put in the time, like everyone else, to make this delicious pizza. And let me tell you, it is well worth it! The combination of sweet and salty is similar to a “hawaiian” pizza, but in my opinion, is less dissident.
The Pizza, found on her blog, How Sweet It Is, combines the perfect amount of sweetness of apple with the salty and smoky taste of bacon. Similarly, the Gouda cheese and red onion add a flavorful contrast. The union of flavors in her recipe creates a mouth-watering meal that will satisfy all your cravings, but not overwhelm your taste buds. Try it before apple season is over!
