If you’ve been looking at recipes on FineCooking.com in the last few days, you’ve probably noticed the little wine-glass icon at the top of the page. What’s up? We’re excited to announce our new partnership with the wine research and ratings site Snooth.com, to provide wine-pairings on most of our main-course recipes.

Here’s how it works: At the bottom of any page with the icon, you’ll see two or three categories of recommended wines. Snooth generates these recommendations based on ingredients and cooking methods in the recipe, using a custom algorithm, and then suggests examples in each category from its database of 3 million wines. Each wine recommendation features the producer name, varietal, and vintage, and a photo of the label or bottle. Unlike the hand-selected wine recommendations we print in Fine Cooking magazine, these pairings are regularly updated with new vintage and price info; if you’re looking at a recipe that ran in the magazine years ago, the wine picks will be bottles that are actually still available in stores.
To learn more about the recommended wines, click on a bottle, which takes you to the wine detail page at Snooth.com. Here you’ll find info about the winery, professional critics’ reviews, and ratings and reviews on the wine from Snooth’s users, plus you can get links to retailers in your area that sell the wine.
Right now you’ll find wine pairings on most main-course recipes, but as we refine the pairing engine, we’ll be rolling it out to other types of recipes as well. Got feedback on the wine-pairing widget? Comment below and let us know!
