There I was, calmly deglazing a skillet with a bit of water after cooking up some shrimp. I reached for the first whisk I could find in the over-crowded utensil jar… “Oh, it’s the flat whisk. I never use this one,” I thought. But I had to move fast, so I used the flat whisk to add in a bit of red curry paste, half a can of coconut milk, fresh lime juice, light brown sugar and a touch of fish sauce. I kept whisking the sauce, daydreaming about who knows what… suddenly, my ever-curious, energetic dog, Jack, jumped up on the kitchen counter behind me! In my rush to push his front paws off the countertop, I dropped the whisk into the skillet. I figured it would be all hot and sticky, and covered in sauce. But lo and behold, when I turned back to the stove to retrieve it, the curved handle of the whisk had caught on the side of the skillet and it was resting nicely, no mess at all! That’s a whisk worth reaching for.
