Chile Chico

Servings: 1 (yields enough syrup for 16 drinks)

The serrano chiles in the simple syrup kick this chico up a notch or two.

  • 2 cups water
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 2 serrano chiles, sliced
  • 2 oz. gin
  • 2 oz. blackberry liqueur
  • 1/2 oz. fresh lemon juice
  • Tonic water, to taste
  • Lemon slice, for garnish

  • Combine the water, sugar, and chiles, and steep for 30 minutes. Strain and chill.
  • Fill a highball or large glass with ice. Add the gin, liqueur, 1 oz. of the simple syrup, and the lemon juice; top with tonic water. Stir. Garnish with a lemon slice.
