Muddled sweet cherries add a burst of bright color to the classic Mexican cocktail. Look for agave nectar at the supermarket near the honey and maple syrup.

Too sweet at proportions in recipe. Agree with previous reviewer about increasing the tequila and decreasing the agave. Definitely use a blanco tequila. Very, very yummy! I like to leave in some of the smashed up cherries.
This recipe for fresh cherry margarita is not Joanne Weir's recipe. Her recipe does not call for maraschino liqueur, it calls for creme de cassis. The recipe follows:1 handful of fresh cherries, about 12, pitted1 1/2 ounce blanco 100% agave tequila1/2 ounce crme de cassis1/2 ounce agave nectar1/2 ounce water3/4 ounce lime fresh lime juiceFresh cherries as a garnishPlace the cherries in a shaker and muddle or mash them for 1 minute. Add the tequila, crme de cassis, agave nectar, water, lime juice and lots of ice cubes. Place the top on the shaker and shake vigorously for 30 seconds. Immediately strain into a highball glass filled with fresh ice. Garnish with a cherries and serve immediately.Serves 1
