Hot Cocoa with Coconut Milk, Cinnamon, and Turmeric

Servings: 2

Nothing pairs better with holiday cookies than hot cocoa. Here’s a classic version with a healthy twist (both cinnamon and turmeric reputedly have anti-inflammatory properties, and coconut milk is a “good” fat) so that you can feel a little less guilty about all of this end-of-year indulging.

  • 3 Tbs. unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 Tbs. granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon; more as needed
  • 1/2 tsp. ground turmeric
  • 1 13.5-oz. can coconut milk, well shaken

In a medium heavy-duty saucepan, combine the cocoa powder, sugar, cinnamon, and turmeric with 1/2 cup boiling water. Add the coconut milk, bring to a boil over medium-high heat, and simmer, whisking constantly, for 1 minute. Divide between 2 mugs, and dust with additional cinnamon, if you like.
