Servings: Serves 6-8
This is a slightly unconventional take on a classic favorite. This apple brown betty recipe comes to us from Jessie Sheehan, who got it from her mother.
Watch us make this recipe come to life on our IGTV series, My Mamma Makes It Better.
3 to 4 medium apples, peeled and cut into thin slices
ÂĽ cup sugar
Âľ cup all-purpose flour
Âľ cup sugar
1 tsp. ground cinnamon
ÂĽ tsp. salt
½ cup butter, softened
Heat the oven to 350°F.
Prepare the apples:
Place the apples in a greased 9×9-inch baking dish, spreading them evenly to cover the bottom. Pour ÂĽ cup water over the apples and sprinkle with the ÂĽ cup sugar.
Make the topping: In a medium bowl, combine the flour, sugar, cinnamon, and salt. Add the butter, using your hands to incorporate it into the dry ingredients until it becomes crumbly. Sprinkle the topping evenly over the apples.
Bake for 40 to 60 minutes, until the topping is golden brown. Serve with vanilla ice cream.
I make same but use 1/4 cup orange juice in place of water and sugar
