Russian Dressing

Yield: Makes about 1-1/2 cups

Sure, you can buy Russian dressing, but homemade is so much better. Plus, you likely have all the ingredients on hand. It’s terrific on a Reuben or alongside Baked Eggs with Corned Beef and Sauerkraut Hash.

  • 1 cup mayonnaise
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 3 Tbs. finely chopped shallots
  • 1 Tbs. prepared horseradish
  • 2 tsp. hot sauce, such as Cholula; more to taste
  • 1 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 tsp. dried mustard
  • 1/4 tsp. smoked paprika

  • In a medium bowl, combine all the ingredients. Season to taste with additional hot sauce. Cover and refrigerate for up to 1 week.

Smoked paprika makes a fairly standard recipe more interesting. If you don’t have it, substitute hot paprika.

This is just the best on either a pastrami or rueben sammie!

Where thousand island dressing is sweet, Russian has spice. So much better! Onions can substitute for the shallots but either needs to be very finely chopped.
